It just keeps going wrong at every moment and every circumstance.
The COVID-19 pandemic does not help the situation either, in fact, it exposes the true intentions of certain politicians who never care about the people’s well-being. Not only does the lethal virus claim lives, but also unravels the true nature of politicians who strive for more than just votes and elections: it is the power of the political hierarchy. Greed is indeed a part of human nature, but it is also a nuisance in a group of communities. Many countries like the United States Of America, United Kingdom, India and many more have yet to defeat the dangerous virus and have been desperate to cure while balancing political matters. Sometimes, they even learned it too much on the latter, sending more people to their deaths. There is an alarming rate of death occurring every single day, and a lot of people have been losing their beloved without a proper goodbye, knowing how risky it is to visit them on their hospital beds for the last time. Yes, the people are also responsible for obeying the Movement Restriction Order and social distancing laws, but that does not mean politicians can escape from that as well. It is a public fact that not all politicians have a sense of responsibility to follow the norm, moreover they can get away with anything without paying a single cent of fine for it. Even the police could not or barely do anything about it.
For example, Malaysia was about to be recorded as one of the most successful countries in the world who are able to combat the pandemic. But they celebrated too early and the COVID-19 cases spiked up from hundreds to thousands. It all began with the Sabah election where people gathered without much thinking of the social distancing law, hence the sudden increase of the infected cases. It is this very incident which causes the country to have its title stripped off and is looked down upon around the world until now, all because of a selfish desire of a politician who wants votes and power from their people without having much consideration for public health. Now, frontliners are struggling to accommodate the infected while the politicians roam free, and we can see the double standards citizens have to face throughout the pandemic. The rich become richer and the poor become poorer: that is the perfect description for this flawless system the world has been living in. It has affected many businesses severely: be it general shops, shopping malls, even flat roofing too! Unemployment rate begins to rise drastically too, but what can the politicians care if they earn a lot more doing little to no effort to aid these unfortunate people?
We should take New Zealand as an example, led by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Despite her political position, she cares more about the well-being of her people than power. The country emerges victorious as they become free from the COVID-19 virus and is now one of the most thriving countries to battle COVID-19 effectively after South Korea. A commendable achievement like these proves more and more of how everything can be changed for the better if the leaders are working hard enough to make it right.
With the constant happenings stemming from politicians which has becoming a repetitive pattern, the people of their respective countries began to realize if they have picked the wrong person to entrust on and lead them, where these world leaders are expected to make the world better, but did the bare minimum and gain more earns than their people ever be. Politicians have no excuses for their heinous actions, but they do have motives, as do practically all wrongdoers. It makes the people wonder if ordinary politicians ever devote time and mental energy to moral due diligence, or if they are too busy enacting laws and issuing directives to consider the potential that they are wielding authority illegally. Besides, bribery is never an uncommon practice among politicians within a corrupted system. Such carelessness is unsurprising given that political systems compensate them for appearing nice by traditional criteria.
So why do we, the people of our country, keep ending up with the wrong politicians over and over again? It could be we are so easily manipulated with the public and private personality of a politician, or if our morals are as questionable as them to the point of relying on them to provide an answer for it. Or do we simply accept the lying politician to fabricate the truth and honesty of everything political? Nevertheless, it is quite contradicting to speak harshly about politicians yet we ourselves do not even live up to it. We are more alienated from a political system and believe these candidates are the elite of our establishment.
