Scrambling for Control of Oil

Has our foreign policy degenerated into who controls the oil? If that is the case, it means that big business is in charge.
However, the new reality of Bush's latest move seems to illustrate vividly what dictates U.S. foreign policy at this strategic moment in U.S. history.
A headline in the August 27 USA Today on the world news page read in bold black print:
David Jackson of the USA Today writing staff wrote the following from Washington, D.C.:
"President Bush rebuked Russia for its `irresponsible decision' Tuesday to formally recognize two breakaway Georgian regions, which further raised fears of a new Cold War.
"Adding to the tension, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev threatened an unspecified military response if the United States follows through with a missile-defense system near Russia's borders in Poland and the Czech Republic.
"Bush warned Russia to respect the border of neighboring Georgia and its separatist provinces of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which were at the heart of the week-long battle between Russia and Georgia this month.
"Medvedev's announcement Tuesday on national television ignored strong opposition by the U.S. and Europe.
"'We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a Cold War,' he said after saying Russia will grant diplomatic recognition to the two regions.
"Separately, Medvedev said his country may respond to a U.S. missile shield in Europe. 'We have to react somehow, to react, of course, in a military way,' Medvedev was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency."
Stephen Larrabee, a specialist on European security with the RAND Corporation think tank, stated in the same article, "A military confrontation is unlikely." Larrabee then added, "But the Russia dispute threatens prospects of U.S. Russian cooperation in several
important areas, including access to oil, dissuading Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapons program, and reaching agreements on arms control and nuclear proliferation."
George Washington, the first U.S. president, warned that we must as a nation "avoid foreign entanglements."
Now it can be told that the U.S. with President Bush and his robot Republican administration barged into Iraq on a well orchestrated media propaganda blitz. In his infamous State of the Union Message he dramatically declared that the U.S. was threatened by Iraq's nuclear power .
Once the horrifying "shock and awe" named the Iraq War began, proud parades of patriotic Americans who had been lied to, marched in lock step. They fantasized that the Iraq War was necessary to protect U.S. citizens and could spread freedom and democracy not only to Iraq but the entire Middle East.
When Israel went to war against Hamas in Lebanon the U.S. supplied "cluster bombs" with a proviso to make sure these powerful weapons didn't kill innocent men, women and children, only the Israeli designated enemy.
Bush celebrated prematurely the day a helicopter sped him to a waiting U.S. naval carrier. Dressed in a flight suit with TV cameras rolling, he dramatically declared "Mission Accomplished."
That was another fantasy. The Iraq War rages on after 6 years, longer than World War Two or the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Building the national debt into the trillions, now rapidly approaching $10 trillion, Democrats refused to begin impeachment proceedings in spite of Bush launching an un-needed war and trashing the U.S. Constitution's guarantees.
This is the same ill-advised president now telling Russia not to grant independence to two Georgia provinces, one of which was invaded by Georgia.
What is he thinking of? Could it be oil? Could it be what McCain says regarding oil?
The Jackson USA Today article concluded with insight into the thinking of John McCain. According to Jackson, McCain "expressed concern about the security of an oil pipeline that runs through Georgia."
McCain was quoted as follows:
"If that pipeline were destroyed or controlled by Russia, global energy supplies would be even more vulnerable to Moscow's influence."
Bush clone McCain clearly recognizes that, when all is said and done, it all comes down to oil.
